Kathleen Hedberg was sixteen years old when she first became interested in finding more about her Swedish grandparents, and later began her extensive Swedish research after visiting her relatives in Sweden. She has been actively involved in Swedish research for over thirty years, researching primarily in the Värmland, Örebro, and Dalarna areas. She completed her dissertation for a PhD in history at Brigham Young University by researching court and tax records for the 1600s in Karlskoga parish and creating family linkages for this time period. This enabled her to extend many of her family lines nearly one hundred years earlier than the beginning of birth records. She is interested in using court and tax records to help other people extend their lines, particularly people who have ancestors in the Örebro-Värmland area.
