Sonja Hoeke-Nishimoto was born in Frankfurt/Main in West Germany. She immigrated to the US as a small child. Sonja attended Brigham Young University and is married with two children and four grandchildren. Sonja has been doing professional research since 1982 and later began part-time employment at the Family History Library and began working there full time in 1989 as a German/Slavic reference consultant at the International Reference desk. She received her first accreditation in German research in 1987. She is especially interested in the eastern provinces of the old German Empire and also enjoys researching in Poland and the Netherlands. She is currently extracting a Polish parish and posting them on the FEEFHS website. She is on the Board of Directors for the Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA). Sonja has enjoyed traveling to Germany, Poland and other European countries where she was able to do genealogical research on her own lines and others as well. She is the author of several reference books and publications. Favorite things to do include, being a grandmother, traveling, gardening and doing research!
