Careen Barrett-Stone, BA, AG®

Careen Barrett-Stone has a Bachelor’s Degree in Family History from Brigham Young University.  She is accredited for research in the Germany region by the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGenSM).

She was a co-compiler, editor, and/or project coordinator for volumes 2-8 of German Immigrants in American Church Records, a valuable resource for locating Protestant immigrant ancestors in Germany.

In 2015, she was contracted by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. As a Research Specialist on the International Floor, Careen provided consultations, translations, and instruction for library guests, while also strategizing, implementing, and participating in special projects among the staff.

Careen has been conducting professional research since 2007. While most comfortable researching in 15th to 20th century German language documents, her interests are varied and her approach to research is pioneering and adventurous.  She delights in alphabets and languages and loves to be challenged by Cyrillic, Hebrew/Yiddish, and transitional Romanian/Moldovan documents.

Careen has research experience in most Central and Eastern European countries, plus France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Particular research interests include the following historical regions:

German Empire (Germany, Poland)

Russian Empire (Russia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus)

Austro-Hungarian Empire (Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia)

Switzerland
