Janice S. Blackhurst, AG®

I have more than 20 years of genealogy research experience with extensive experience in Georgia and the southern United States. My B.A. degree in Spanish is a great asset in researching the records of the Gulf South region, especially records from the Spanish period for Louisiana, Florida and Texas. My professional research service Genea In A Bottle was started in 2010 and client projects have included almost every U.S. State and many International locations including Spain, Mexico, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Canada and Islands of the Caribbean. I also have extensive experience in the Pacific Northwest and have access to archives in that region. I have been a member of ICAPGen for more than 4 years, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and a member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

I have excellent research and analysis skills; and have been able to solve complex genealogy “mysteries”. I can also translate documents from Spanish to English.

Some of my volunteer service is to the Susan Woodin Chapter of NSDAR where I assist prospective members with applications and other lineage research issues. I have also provided service as a Family History Consultant at the LDS Church for many years.

I have presented lectures for Genealogy Societies, School programs and Family History Expos on a variety of topics. The lecture titles include:

“Keeping Up With The Jones’ – A Real Case Study of Tracing a Common Surname in Georgia”
“Attic Clues and Family Lore – Breaking through a Brick Wall in Irish Genealogy – a Real Case Study”
“U.S. Probate Records and Process”
“The U.S. Naturalization Process”
“Hispanic Genealogy Research”
“Sourcing Isn’t Scary, Sourcing Genealogy Evidence, Why, What and How”
