Margo McKinstry, AG®
Margo McKinstry is accredited for research in England.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Margo was raised in eastern Canada in a military family. Her fondest childhood memory is the two years her family lived in Kent, England where she attended Bromley County Grammar School for Girls.
Presently living in Layton & St. George, Utah, Margo is married to Jim and has six daughters and 20+ grandchildren. Margo’s love of genealogy started at an early age and her English, Scottish and Irish roots run deep. She is an Accredited Genealogist professional in England and retired in August 2013 from her job as a British Research Consultant at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Margo has taught patron classes at the Library, has presented at a number of conferences, and authored several genealogical publications. In the summer of 2009, she spearheaded the implementation of the “Summer of Sleuthing” program for youth and families interested in pursuing family history through an online format on the Wiki. Presently, she serves as a volunteer at the SLC Family History Library in the summers and at the St. George FSC in the winter months.
Because of my accreditation in England research, I would be happy to reach out to others if I am able. I have presented at numerous conferences where I have taught “England – Census & Civil Registration” and “England – Church Records & Records of the Poor”. I can also teach a “Ireland – Beginning Research” class. Another class that I have done is “Scotland’s best web site – wwwscotlandspeople.gov.uk” which includes basic Scotland research.
